RIO GRANDE — Lowe’s Home Improvement Center here donated 35 freshly cut Christmas trees to Our Lady Star of the Sea School Nov. 28.

The school will sell the trees as a fundraiser, according to PTA President Frank Zelenik. He said it is the first time the school has sold Christmas trees.

Zelenik said parent Keith Lafferty came up with the idea to sell trees.

“About two weeks ago, we weren’t able to get any wholesalers from down south or even out towards Pennsylvania that had any trees left that could get them to us,” Zelenik said.

You're obviously not from Cape May County, 12:30am. You make entirely too much sense.

This is the County that takes a loan for $2 million dollars every year, that the taxpayers have to repay, to turn around and give the money to the towns for projects they should have paid for from local taxes in the first place.

This is the County that doubles bridge tolls every couple of years for bridge repairs and then doesn't repair the bridges.

Are you seeing the pattern here, 12:30am??? So, giving raises right before cutting jobs makes sense to our County.....stupid is as stupid does.

Thu, 12/04/2008 - 12:30am

Are you kidding? Isn't the county in a hiring freeze and about to lay people off? Shouldn't they have fozen salaries for everyone before cutting jobs? All departments and services should take the burden. Ridiculous.

I hope you receive your checks. I have received 4 BLANK checks since I filed in October 2008, and read numerous blogs online about others who have this same problem, followed by the inability to talk to anyone at the unemployment office when the checks are not forthcoming as a recording simply states, "due to high call volume, please call back later...click". Apparently almost everyone at the unemployment office has been laid off too. Good luck to you, and me, and all the others not receiving the money that was supposedly put into this fund, especially after we paid into unemployment in every regular paycheck we have ever earned.

Nice.......private sector job loss for NJ in October was 6,000.

Public job gains in NJ for October was 100.

Less people employed in the private sector to pay for more people in the public jobs. Our elected officials really don't have a clue. NJ government is too big at all levels and yet they keep adding jobs. I hope NJ goes bankrupt soon, so we can start all over with a clean slate.
